Two Latinx sisters seize an opportunity to capitalize on their “changing neighborhood” by appearing on an HGTV-style reality show, unprepared for the show’s surreal left-turn through ancestry, capitalism and identity. What is the cost of progress in America? And is cashing in always selling out?

Eliana Pipes’s “DREAM HOU$E”
A 29-HOUR WORKSHOP
Checkmark has been a fan of Eliana since our founding, and we couldn’t be more excited to have the pleasure of developing her newest play, from the first draft to the first public presentation. Thanks to the support of WP Theater and INTAR Theatre, Checkmark will be facilitating a 29-Hour workshop of DREAM HOU$E,” this December. The workshop will serve as an opportunity to bring actors and a director into the room for 4 days to rehearse, revise, and provide space for Eliana’s newest play to reach its fullest potential.
A bit about the play:
Two Latinx sisters on an HGTV-style show are selling their family home, hoping to capitalize on the gentrification in the “changing neighborhood.” In the process they discover details of the family’s past and the potential for their future, forcing them to grapple with what’s lost and gained in the quest for upward mobility.
I’ll be a playwright in the 2018 season of the 24 Hour Plays: Nationals!

Six playwrights, one composer, six directors, and twenty four actors will create and perform six brand new short plays over the course of a single day!

Inspired by Paula Deen's 2013 comments fantasizing about wanting to have an Antebellum South themed wedding with "historically appropriate wait staff," Stand and Wait follows a seasoned black actress and a naïve white actress who make friends in an audition waiting room, only to be handed a script that caters to America's worst racial instincts.
